Contract Manufacturing |
|
Johnson Machine Works efforts in contract manufacturing began during
World War II. It was early in the 1940's that Russell Johnson signed a
contract to manufacture depth charge release tracks for the U.S. Navy.
At the time material was scarce and the work force was sparse. Russell
wasn't exactly sure how he was going to get it done but he made a
commitment and was determined to follow through. So successful was he
and Johnson Machine Works that other wartime work followed, including
large and small buoys for the U. S. Coast Guard. Johnson Machine Works
was one of a few select companies to earn the Army-Navy "E" Award for
excellence in war production. |
